Food group Calvo, specialised in canned seafood, was a participant in the panel comprised of some of the biggest international companies operating in the food and beverage industry at the 7th Annual Sustainable Development in the Food and Beverage Industry Summit held in Amsterdam (the Netherlands).

This international forum is amongst the most important gatherings of the year in the food industry. Over the two-day event, executives and experts from around the globe delve into one of the most significant challenges facing this key sector of the world economy, the sustainable development of the food industry.

Grupo Calvo was the only Spanish company invited to participate and its case served as an example of responsible and sustainable management. During her presentation, Victoria Sánchez, Grupo Calvo’s director of Corporate Social Responsibility, outlined the pillars of the group’s sustainability strategy. She highlighted the environmental project being carried out with the aim of valorising 100% of the waste generated by the company in conducting its operations, in addition to the company’s ambitious supply chain management system implemented to ensure responsible sourcing.

Grupo Calvo enjoys a presence in more than 70 countries with its products and has production centres in Europe and America and more than 600 suppliers worldwide.

“It’s an honour for the Calvo case to have merited the attention of the Sustainable Development Summit organisers. This constitutes recognition of the effort we’ve been devoting to continuous improvement of our supply chain management in order to make it not only more efficient, but also more responsible and sustainable. In the past few years, we’ve made tremendous progress in this area by enhancing our ability to monitor our suppliers to make sure they meet the highest standards in every dimension. Likewise, “Calvo Zero Waste”, a project through which we seek to improve the way we manage and treat waste, stems from our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” stated Victoria Sánchez.
