Spanish food group Grupo Calvo has received the 9th Best Responsible Practice Award as part of the 15th Annual Corporate Responsibility Benchmarking Conference, organized by the Sustainability Excellence Club and the Association for Management Progress (APD) in collaboration with the Adecco Foundation and Garrigues.

Juan Alfaro, Secretary-General of the Sustainability Excellence Club, was in charge of presenting this award to Mariví Sánchez, Grupo Calvo’s CSR director: “It is an honor to receive this recognition that not only helps to highlight the steadfast commitment we have undertaken as a group, but also encourages us to try to keep doing things better every day. Thanks to the roadmap we have plotted for ourselves from now to 2025, we aim to accomplish seventeen objectives focused on protecting our oceans, the environment and people.”

Composed of members Clifford Wait of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Isabel Castillo, representative of Amfori in Spain, Sofía Rubio from IE Business School and José Manuel Sedes, an expert in the field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, the panel of judges assessed consolidated results, originality, totality, implementation difficulties and the consumer education Grupo Calvo’s “Responsible Commitment Goals” initiative brings. Such values were deemed by the judging panel to have “priority” in evaluating the 16 companies competing in this 9th implementation of the Awards for Best Responsible Practice.

The award was presented at the closing ceremony of the 15th Corporate Responsibility Benchmarking Conference held November 14th and 15th at the Garrigues headquarters in Seville. This event has become a key gathering that annually brings together major Spanish companies to exchange experiences and knowledge and share best practices in the realm of Corporate Responsibility.

Responsible Engagement

The Responsible Commitment Goals constitute an initiative through which Grupo Calvo has defined seventeen challenges in three key areas for the organization – oceans, environment and people – with a compliance horizon to 2025. The company has thus drawn up a roadmap and the directives to be followed by the group in managing its business responsibly, increasing efficiency and minimizing the negative impacts associated with its activities.

Progress toward meeting the objectives will be verified by an independent third party, and the data will be made public on an annual basis. In addition, to make its true commitment to responsibility and sustainability even more visible, the food group has created a seal that is featured on the products of its brands (Calvo, Nostromo and Gomes da Costa). This also serves to bring this initiative closer to end consumers and involve them in the project.
