Spearheaded by Carrefour with the aim of ensuring healthy and environmentally friendly food options for consumers.

Carballo (A Coruña), September 6, 2021.- As part of its commitment to people and the environment, Grupo Calvo has joined the Food Transition Pact. The ultimate aim of this signed commitment is to make sustainably produced healthy and quality food available to everyone.

The pact is an initiative led by the Carrefour distribution chain that seeks to promote the collaboration of all participants in the food transition (producers, employees, consumers, NGOs, etc.) to provide consumers with healthy, climate-friendly options, as well as easy access to clear and trustworthy information about products.

Calvo is the only manufacturer of canned products among the 50 signatories to the pact in which the main brands and leading companies in the food world are represented. The transition towards a healthy and sustainable food model is the axis of the Group’s “Responsible Engagement” strategy that includes among its objectives the use of tuna sourced solely from responsible and sustainable fisheries, its traceability from the source and the recovery of any and all waste generated.

During the signing ceremony of the agreement, Jorge Ybarra Loring, merchandise director for Carrefour Spain, stated that “The commitment signed reflects our ability to work with manufacturers to offer our customers healthy and environmentally friendly products.”

Mariví Sánchez, Grupo Calvo’s director of sustainability, in turn underscored the collaborative nature of the pact, and added that “contributing to a healthy and sustainable diet is the core objective of our Responsible Engagement with the oceans, people and the environment. We want to be better, more efficient and sustainable, and involve our customers and consumers in this commitment.”

Calvo’s responsible engagement

Grupo Calvo’s Responsible Engagement is an ambitious sustainability program that encompasses up to 17 improvement targets in three key areas: oceans, environment and people. Its aim is the company’s transformation into a more sustainable enterprise through the development of various programs and projects whose evolution is verified annually by independent external auditors.

With a compliance horizon to 2025, Grupo Calvo’s Responsible Engagement initiative marks the company’s roadmap when it comes to managing its business responsibly worldwide and throughout the value chain, increasing efficiency and minimizing the negative impacts associated with its activities.
