Calvo Vuelca Fácil® (Easy Flip) packaging recognized as one of the innovations of the year in the consumer goods sector

In the fifth edition of the Observatory of Innovation in the Consumer Goods Sector organized by the Institut Cerdà.

Launched a year ago, Vuelca Fácil® (Easy Flip) introduced to the market a new, more efficient and sustainable way of producing, packaging and consuming tuna.

The Observatory of Innovation in the Consumer Goods Sector in Spain, organized annually by the Institut Cerdà, has selected Vuelca Fácil® packaging as one of the top twenty outstanding innovations in the industry in 2021.

The sixteen independent experts who made up the selection panel chose Vuelca Fácil® from among more than 300 participating initiatives of companies and brands from all over the country.

Launched just a year ago, Vuelca Fácil® has brought a completely new way of producing, packaging, serving and consuming tuna to the market. It is also more efficient, sustainable and adapted to consumer demands.

Martín Barbaresi, Marketing Director of Grupo Calvo’s Europe Division, expressed gratitude to “the Institut Cerdà for acknowledging Grupo Calvo’s commitment to innovation through this recognition. Throughout our trajectory, we have been shaping the evolution of one of the most widely consumed canned products in our country, with milestones such as low-sodium light tuna and, more recently, light tuna with 50% less fat, as well as Foodie tuna salads with edamame and chickpeas. Today, we continue to drive change with our new Vuelca Fácil®packaging.”

The recognition comes as part of the fifth implementation of the Observatory of Innovation in the Consumer Goods Sector, through which the Institut Cerdà seeks to raise awareness of the main challenges facing the sector and the most innovative projects implemented over the course of the year in Spain to address them.

Food use and sustainability

Noteworthy among the main benefits of the new Calvo packaging is enhanced consumer experience because it enables 100% of the product to be easily turned over and extracted, in addition to easier and safer opening. Along with the easy-flip feature, the exactly right amount of oil helps reduce food waste by making use of all of the tuna.

The advantages also carry over into the area of sustainability. Fewer materials used in production and the elimination of 15 grams of oil covering the tuna give rise to a format with a 30% lower impact on climate change compared to traditional cans.

This acknowledgment of Vuelca Fácil® joins the recognition it received in the seventh edition of the Galicia Food Awards in the Innovative Product category.
